About Mannheim

Mannheim is a leading cultural and scientific city and home to many important and innovative institutes. Mannheim is the second largest city in the state of Baden Wuerttemberg with a population of 325,000 inhabitants.

It is a city of many facets: famous for its warm hospitality, Art Nouveau facades, Water Tower (Mannheim’s civic symbol), Baroque Palace, beloved shopping mile, museums, National Theatre, excellent cuisine, choice beers and fine wines.
Mannheim was the intellectual home of Schiller and Mozart (Mannheim School) and the seat of Germanys first ever Pop Academy.

Classics and romantic meet pop in a city where innovation, a striving spirit and economic growth prevail and where positive encounters between people, cultures and ideas are an everyday occurrence.

The best way to explore Mannheim is by foot. Distances are short and most visitor attractions are located within a few minutes walk of each other. Tourist Information Mannheim can assist with readymade city walking maps and trails.

Mannheim has excellent transport and access infrastructure: Frankfurt am Main International Airport only 30 minutes away (some 2,800 Deutsche Lufthansa flights land here each week) and Mannheim Central Station, an important European long-distance hub with some 185 ICE, IC and EC trains stopping here daily.

And should you have time on your hands in between meetings then take a short trip to two of Mannheim's surrounding regions: the Odenwald and the Palatinate (Pfalz), famous for their forests and valleys, vineyards and castles, fairytales and sagas (e.g. Siegfried and the Niebelungen Song).

Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites are also located close by: Speyer Cathedral and Lorsch Abbey are and world renowned Heidelberg Castle is only a stone's throw away.

The asparagus Mecca of Schwetzingen, the Hochheim motorsport arena, the cathedral and university town of Worms, the German Wine Route or the Castle Route are also well worth a visit.
